Connect an AI agent to SiteRF

Add SiteRF to Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client, choose what the agent may do, upload a floorplan, and revoke access when you are done.

SiteRF runs as a remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Once an agent is connected it can read a drawing, search for the fewest access points that meet a requirement, plan channels and power, and build the diagram, cost estimate and PDF report, on the same solver as the app. This page covers connecting, what you approve, and how to take access back. For what the tools do, see AI agents.

Before you connect

  • Free calculators need no account. Free-space path loss, link budget, dBm conversion and cited building-material attenuation are open at https://siterfapp.com/mcp/public, with no sign-in.
  • Everything else needs a SiteRF account. Agent access is included in every paid plan and during the free trial. An organization with no active trial or plan can still read projects, but cannot run simulations or change anything.
  • You need the server URL: https://siterfapp.com/mcp. It uses streamable HTTP and asks for sign-in on the first request, which is what starts the OAuth flow in your client.

Connect Claude

In Claude on the web or desktop, add a custom connector and paste the server URL. Claude opens SiteRF’s sign-in and consent screen; approve it there.

In Claude Code, add the server from a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http siterf https://siterfapp.com/mcp

Claude Code starts the same sign-in the first time it uses a SiteRF tool.

Connect ChatGPT

In ChatGPT, turn on developer mode, add an MCP connector with the server URL, and choose OAuth as the sign-in method. ChatGPT then opens the same consent screen.

Other MCP clients

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP with OAuth can use the same URL. Clients that cannot run an OAuth flow, and scripts or CI jobs, can use an API key instead.

Approve what the agent may do

The consent screen names the client, asks you to choose one organization, and lists what the agent may do. Anything that changes data is off unless you turn it on.

Permission What it allows
Run calculations Coverage solves, point probes, placement search, channel and power planning
Read the equipment catalog Search and inspect access points, radios and antennas
Read projects List projects, floorplans and placed equipment; simulate a saved project
Read reports List saved reports and fetch a download link
Change projects Create projects, describe or upload floorplans, place equipment, apply a design
Edit report settings Change the title, client, sections and notes that shape the PDF
Delete projects Permanently delete a project (owner role only)

Calculations and read access are ticked by default. Change projects, edit report settings and delete projects start unticked, so an agent can look and calculate until you say otherwise.

An agent never has more permission than you have. The role, the grant and the plan are checked on every request, so a viewer cannot use an agent to change a project, and an organization whose plan ended is read-only for agents too.

If a tool you expected is missing, the connection was granted without that permission. Reconnect with the box ticked and refresh the tool list in your client.

Use an API key instead

For scripts and CI, open Organizations → API keys, create a key, choose its permissions and lifetime (30 days, 90 days or one year), and copy it. It is shown once and starts with srf_. Send it as a bearer token:

claude mcp add --transport http siterf https://siterfapp.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer srf_…"

A key is tied to one organization and can be revoked from the same page.

Send a floorplan

A drawing cannot travel through a tool call. The agent asks SiteRF for a signed upload link that expires in 15 minutes, then the file is sent to it with a plain HTTP PUT:

curl -sS -X PUT --data-binary @plan.dxf '<the link the agent gives you>'

If the agent can run a shell it does this itself. If it cannot, such as an agent in a chat window with no code execution, it gives you the command to run. The file can be a DXF, PDF, PNG or JPEG up to 20 MB.

The agent then reads the file into walls, openings and a proposed scale, and reports what it could not determine. Check the proposal against the drawing. A PDF or image has no scale of its own, so until a real dimension has been confirmed, simulation and optimization refuse the plan.

Limits to expect

  • A single solve is capped by grid size and estimated compute time. An over-limit request fails with the numbers and what to change, or uses a coarser grid and says so.
  • Results are planning estimates from a 2D plan-view model with assumed wall and rack losses. They are not field measurements, and every result lists its assumptions. Compare against a site survey before you buy.
  • SiteRF supplies no equipment prices. Prices come from your request or your organization’s rate card, and a cost estimate withholds its total if any line has no price.

Revoke access

Open Organizations → Connected apps and disconnect the app. Project access stops immediately and calculators within a few minutes. API keys are revoked from Organizations → API keys.
